If you or anyone of your relatives or friends has spent some time in a hospital you have probably noticed that patients are given Jello with virtually every meal they receive.  Most people assume that this is due to the bouncy texture and bright colors which cheer people up.

Turns out they couldn’t be further from the truth.  The gelatin in Jello actually provides a wide plethora of health benefits and healing properties that accelerate the healing process and soothe the gut.

WHAT IS GELATIN AND HOW IS IT MADE?

Gelatin is a colorless, brittle, and flavorless protein obtained by boiling animal bones, skin, ligaments and tendons with water.   It is typically obtained from pigs or cows to extract the collagen. Collagen is the material which connects skin, bones, and muscle in animals, and it becomes gelatin when it is processed.

Gelatin is made up of up to 98-99 percent protein, and due to its extremely high amino acid content it provides a wide range of healing properties for the human body.  So, it`s no wonder that it is so often used in hospitals.

Glycine has been found to help improve sleep.  This was proven in a study in which people took three grams of glycine before bedtime.  They reported an easier time falling asleep, improved sleep quality, and feeling less tired in the morning.
